Veeam and Internxt S3 Cloud Object Storage

How to set up Veeam backups with Internxt S3

The object storage technology on which Internxt's S3 Cloud Object Storage is based on has been certified for use with multiple products and functionalities of Veeam, as part of the official compatibility with the program Veeam Ready.

This technology has been validated in the following categories:

  • Object Storage

  • Object Storage with Immutability

This ensures that Internxt Cloud Object Storage is fully compatible with Veeam for modern, secure, and scalable backup scenarios, including the use of immutable backups.

Using Veeam products with Internxt's S3 Cloud Object Storage

Details on using Veeam products with Internxt Cloud Object Storage depend on the specific Veeam product or functionality being integrated. To take advantage of immutable backups with Veeam, it is essential to Enable Object Lock (immutability) in the object storage used by Internxt.

⚠️ Important notice

  • Enabling only the versioning del bucket is not a valid configuration for immutable backups with Veeam and may cause operational problems.

  • Bucket versioning is not mandatory in order to use standard Veeam backups with Internxt Cloud Object Storage.

  • For real immutability, Object Lock must be enabled and managed from Veeam.

Integration with Veeam Enterprise products

Internxt Cloud Object Storage is compatible with the following Veeam products in Enterprise environments:

  • Veeam Backup & Replication v10, v11, v12

  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365(formerly Office 365)

These integrations allow the use of object storage for both traditional backups and immutable backups managed directly from the Veeam console.

Integration with Veeam products for Service Providers

Internxt Cloud Object Storage can also be used in service provider environments that employ:

  • Veeam Backup & Replication v10

This makes it a suitable option for MSPs that need to offer secure, scalable backup services protected against ransomware.

Migrating backups to Internxt Cloud Object Storage

It is possible to migrate existing Veeam backups from other object storage providers to Internxt Cloud Object Storage.

Supported migration scenarios

  • Backup migrationVeeam v10 o v12 from compatible storage AWS S3

  • Migration of backups from Microsoft Azure Blob Storage

  • Backup migration from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365

  • Migration of Backup Copy Jobs

  • SOBR Repository migration (Scale-Out Backup Repository)

These migrations allow for consolidated storage, improved security, and reduced operational complexity.

Migration using object synchronization tools

It is also possible to perform migrations using object storage synchronization tools, which facilitates scenarios such as:

  • Microsoft 365 Backup Migration

  • Migration of backup copy jobs

  • Migration of direct backups to object storage

  • Migration of complete SOBR configurations

Integration with Object Lock (Immutability)

Internxt Cloud Object Storage is compatible with Object Lock allowing Veeam to apply immutability policies that guarantee that backup data:

  • They cannot be eliminated

  • They cannot be modified

  • They cannot be encrypted by ransomware attacks

    During the configured retention period.

🔒 Immutability must be configured from Veeam to ensure effective protection in accordance with best practices.

Problem solving

The most common issues are usually related to incorrect immutability configurations, especially when only the versioning of the bucket is configured without Object Lock. To avoid issues, it is recommended to always follow Veeam's best practices for configuring immutable object storage.
