What is Virtual Drive?

Find out how to download Internxt Virtual Drive to your computer and how to upload and organize your files.

Virtual Drive allows you to store files on your device without using the computer’s local storage.

The files you store in Virtual Drive are automatically synced and stored in the cloud, so you only download the files you need.

Virtual Drive also allows you to organize your folders and delete unwanted files, these changes will also be synced online to your Internxt Drive account.

Please note that changing the location of the virtual drive is currently only possible in the Windows app.

This restriction is due to Internxt Drive's design as a virtual drive rather than a traditional logical system drive.

Unlike physical drives or other mapped network drives, Internxt Drive is configured for secure cloud file syncing and management, but it cannot be mounted natively within the operating system file structure.

This setup helps the sync client avoid issues with permissions, system folders, or unusual file paths that could cause sync failures.

By keeping everything in one place, your files sync more reliably and consistently across devices.

Traditional logical drive mounting is not supported because the Internxt architecture is built to optimize reliability and avoid issues arising from complex file system integrations.

To get started with Virtual Drive follow the steps below:

Can Internxt Drive Be Configured as a Logical Drive?

Internxt Drive cannot be configured as a logical or mapped drive in the way traditional network drives operate. Instead, it uses a virtual drive to ensure secure, seamless file syncing and management.

  • Login to your Internxt Drive

  • Click on "Desktop"

  • The download will automatically start

  • Once the download is finished, and the app is installed you will be prompted to log in.

When you open the Internxt app, you can interact with your files like a traditional hard drive or USB directly from your computer. However, this interaction is facilitated through a virtual drive interface and does not equate to traditional logical drive mounting within the file system.

  • To create a folder, first you need to right-click, navigate to “new” and select “folder” from the options, and give your folder a name.

  • To upload a folder into your Virtual Drive, you need to drag and drop the file you want to the Internxt Drive interface.
