When you join Internxt, downloading a backup key protects your account if you forget it or need to reset your Internxt password.
Your Internxt backup key generates a list of random words unique to you, allowing you to reset your account safely without losing access to your files. This mechanism is powered by Internxt's zero-knowledge encryption, which ensures that only you can access your unique encryption keys.
A backup key is the only method to recover access to your data because Internxt does not store your password. Internxt's use of zero-knowledge encryption guarantees that no one, not even Internxt, can access your encryption keys or passwords.
Failure to secure your backup key will lead to irreversible loss of your files. When you create your account, please make sure to download and store your backup key securely.
You can only download your backup key from drive.internxt.com, to do so, follow these steps:
How to manage your password and backup key
Log in to your drive account: drive.internxt.com
Click the settings icon on the top right corner of your screen
In the settings menu, you will see four tabs (Account, Billing, Plans, Security). Click Security.
Enter your password to continue.
Scroll down, locate the option to “Export backup key,” and click the option to download your key.
Your backup key will automatically be downloaded to your device - Store it in a safe place
Changing Your Password
To update your account password without affecting your account status or service, follow these steps:
Navigate to Internxt Drive.
Log in using your current credentials.
Access the Settings by clicking the gear icon.
Select Account from the left-hand menu.
Click on Edit Profile to update your password. Following this process ensures a smooth password update without service interruptions.
What to do if you lose your Internxt backup key
If you lose your backup key and cannot log into your account but want to change or reset your password, you will have to delete your account and create a new one.
This will cause you to lose access to all your files.
The final option is to click on forgot your password on the login page. This will erase your account and its data, freeing your email and allowing you to create a brand-new Internxt account.
